About Us

Rockburn Ltd is a family run, not-for-profit business with all proceeds being re-introduced into the business to continually develop the centre and associated facilities. The main ethos for the business has always been to bring something awesome and cool to our home town and the amazing people who live here.

The centre offers a wide range of options for usage, from taster sessions, centre induction and birthday parties to outdoor roped taster sessions on the Isle of Portland (between April and October). As of November 2025 we have introduced a Board Games Cafe into our site!!

Will Martin – Managing Director /Owner

Having worked as a freelance instructor and cycle tour guide for many years, Will retrained and attained a degree in Outdoor Adventure Management in 2012. The aim was to open his own climbing centre in his local town and bring his passion for climbing to his local community – Rockburn Bouldering centre was born in 2017!

An outdoor adventure enthusiast, Will started climbing after a uni lecturer, passionate about climbing, introduced him to trad climbing. Having found a life passion will trained as an instructor and achieved his RCI (used to be SPA Award) in 2015. He has since developed his climbing skills and started his coaching qualification in 2018.

Since then, after clocking over 1000 instructed sessions (taster sessions, inductions, youth climbing and NICAS sessions) and over 100 outdoor days and events (top-roping single pitch and mega abseils) Will continues to offer his experience and skill to interested people and aims to always provide a welcoming experience to all whom come to climb at Rockburn.

Mel Martin – Company Secretary /Owner

OUTDOOR CLIMBING IN PORTLAND, THE BOWER, SPORT CLIMBING, ROCKBURN, BOULDERING, BRIDPORT, THINGS TO DO, JURASSIC COAST

Mel completed her CWI qualification in May 2019, but is experienced in her own right with catering and business management. Mel can be found in the kitchen, keeping the Rock Cafe full of delicious snacks and treats, or helping out with social groups at the centre. Mel has recently started her outdoor climbing career and is making good progress on the rocks.
